Autism

Well, summer is here.  And so I am once again watching my 18 yr old brother--who is autistic.  He's a handful.  I love my brother dearly---but these long hours of watching him are exhausting. (During the school year I watch him after school--about 3 hrs a day.) I am now down to 2-3 days a week.  (A couple of summers ago I watched him 5 days a week.  That was nuts!)
Recently has been difficult because he has a scratch by his lip.  And he won't leave it alone.  He keeps picking, picking, picking, until it bleeds.  And even then he won't stop.  We have to put long socks over his hands and make sure he keeps them on.  It at least slows the picking down.
So Autism runs in families.  I was a little bit worried about my kids when they were younger.  But my youngest is 13---so I think I have dodged that bullet.

Mercy

I hope this isn't considered plagiarism, but on my way to drop my oldest off at the library this song was playing on KLOVE and it made me cry.  And I knew I wanted to post the lyrics today.  KLOVE tells you whose music they played within the last 15 minutes.  This is a beautiful song.

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things

(Chorus)
'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if the thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt your goodness, we doubt your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
And all the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

Chorus

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know the pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home

Chorus

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy
What if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise
